Paint Shop Pro - Watermarking Tutorial

Watermarking, is a need to know technique for web graphics. It discourages people from taking your artwork. This is a simple tutorial for making watermarks that are visible, but do not ruin your images.

1) Open you picture.
2) Create a new layer by going to Layers - New Raster Layer. Name this layer "Text Layer".
3) Select the "Text Tool" (T) and set the settings to your choice, however remember to create the text as Floating
4) Type in your text, but do NOT deselect! Instead create another new layer again by going to
Layers - New Raster Layer . Name this layer as "watermark". Then go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow.
5) Set your settings to mine.
6) Now you must deselect by going to Selections - Select None and delete "Text Layer".
7) Now you have your watermark!
TIP: To move the watermark layer around easier make sure the layer is selected and go to Layers - View - Current Only. Then once you are done moving the layer you can view them all again by going to Layers - View - All.

Paint Shop Pro - Blending

Blending is essential to certain graphics and a great effect altogether. There are many, many different ways and techniques of blending. In this Lesson I will show you a technique on how to blend.

1. I'm starting with 2 pictures I got from sxc.hu. Make sure your pictures are similar. Mine are called "The Falls" and "Below the Falls" (very convenient) . The landscape is also more or less the same. These factors make them great for blending!

2. Okay, so we have 2 separate images, but to blend them we somehow have to get both pictures to one image file. I know that both images are vaguely around 500 * 500 pixels. So I am going to create a new file that is 1000 * 500 pixels. Its ok if its not exact and even better if the new, blank, canvas is smaller than both pictures, so it will be better for blending.

3. Copy both picture (Ctrl + C) and Paste them as a new Layer (Ctrl +L) on the new canvas. Now use the move tool (M) to move the pictures so one is slightly overlapping the other.

4. Steps 1-3 are the base steps for blending. Now its Blending Time!!! Right now you should have 3 layers.
a) the blank canvas (delete it)
b) the layer that is under the other layer (name: 'overlapped')
c) the layer that is overlapping the other layer (name: 'overlapping')

METHOD: SELECTION TOOL
5. Click on the top layer 'overlapping' and select the rectangle selection tool. (S)
6. Set the Feather to 80.
7. Select the part where the pictures overlap.

8. the Selection will expand because it is feathered, but do not pay any attention to that. Instead press the DELETE button once or twice on your keyboard. If you don't feel its blended enough you can keep pressing, but keep in mind the more you press delete the more transparent the image becomes. If you think you've pressed it too much press (Crtl +Z) on your keyboard to undo. Congratulations you have blended a picture! Be sure to crop (R) your picture if you need to. Also don't forget to merge the layers!

Digital Image Pro - Slates + Fade

NOTE: I did not have the time to do watermarks for ALL those screenies, does NOT mean you can take them on your own tutorial! I got this tutorial from marysgraphics.com, but added an extra part and explained a bit more because of the trouble I had with that tutorial. I am NOT claiming this tutorial as my own, just the screenies. I am not claiming the image I used either, I got that from neopets. ;)

This is a totally awesome effect. Real cool!
PART 1 (Slated)
1) Open your image (I am using a neopets image)
2) Now Select the marquee tool, and create rectangles similar to mine below
3) Copy, and paste, as a new layer in your stack. Now that you have your new layers go to Effects >> Shadow
4) Select "Drop Left" and "Customize this Shadow". Choose white, and set transparency and edge softness to 0. Do NOT click OK yet!
5) Instead on the screen with the preview, move the shadow a bit similar to mine.
6) Click ok, and repeat the shadow, except this time select "Drop Right" and set the color to black, Transparency to 0, and edge softness to 3. BEFORE clicking ok, move the shadow similar to what I have below.7) Click ok, and there you have your slated image!
PART 2 (fade)
8) Remember the previous layer below our slates? Click on that.
9) After clicking on the whole image UNDER out slates its time to apply the effect. Go to Effects >> Diffuse Glow and set your settings to mine, or feel free to play around.10) After clicking ok, save your image, and you should be done. If you do not understand any part of the tutorial please leave a comment and I will do my best to fix it ASAP.

Digital Image Pro - Partial Coloring

I am using Digital Image Pro 9 Suite, but I am sure it will work with any version that has the Edge Finder tool.
1) Open up your image, I am using a neopets image.
2) Use the Edge Finder tool to select the image that you still want color in.
3) Now invert your selection.
4) Finally click Effects >> Black and White
4a) You can also try Effects >> Antique
If you find anything unclear leave a comment and I will update the tutorial.

In this tutorial we will go over making a fake vector. We all know how hard vectors are, I will teach you how to make a vector like image easily!

3) Set the amount of smoothing somewhere form 12-16. Click OK.
