This is a totally awesome effect. Real cool!
PART 1 (Slated)
1) Open your image (I am using a neopets image)
2) Now Select the marquee tool, and create rectangles similar to mine below
3) Copy, and paste, as a new layer in your stack. Now that you have your new layers go to Effects >> Shadow4) Select "Drop Left" and "Customize this Shadow". Choose white, and set transparency and edge softness to 0. Do NOT click OK yet!
5) Instead on the screen with the preview, move the shadow a bit similar to mine.
6) Click ok, and repeat the shadow, except this time select "Drop Right" and set the color to black, Transparency to 0, and edge softness to 3. BEFORE clicking ok, move the shadow similar to what I have below.
7) Click ok, and there you have your slated image!PART 2 (fade)
8) Remember the previous layer below our slates? Click on that.
9) After clicking on the whole image UNDER out slates its time to apply the effect. Go to Effects >> Diffuse Glow and set your settings to mine, or feel free to play around.
10) After clicking ok, save your image, and you should be done. If you do not understand any part of the tutorial please leave a comment and I will do my best to fix it ASAP.
